    I have read lots of his offerings and this is probably my least favourite. The plot was only ok if not an ‘A’ typical Reachers adventure. It could have been a huge conspiracy but it only went as far as middle management drug dealing. The story from the military perspective was also light weight.

    There comes a time when some authors become too powerful, the commissioning editors no longer have a say about the author and the content of the book; the accountants rule beacause all they want is product, this seems to have happened here. I have read two recent Lee Child books and neither of them held my attention for long. In this one the plot was overblown, spun out, with a very weak denouement. The temptation was to overcome the boredom and skip to the end just to find what happened. Perhaps I should add, I knew what would happen, I was just idly curious as to how it would happen. If you, or your PR department, reads this Mr Child, can you ask Jack Reacher not to dispose of his old clothing in a trash can in a store ever again and can he please put a razor in with his toothbrush. And the next time you take the manuscript into your publisher ask for the editor who first commissioned you to cast his/her eye over it. Cheers

    As usual this is a great page turner. Maybe not as easy a read as some of his previous but keeps you guessing to the end. I'm sure the subject matter is all too often true in this world of modern military personnel coming home with life changing injuries, which makes this more of a thought provoking story than usual from Lee Child

    Lee Child's last few books have been a definite step down from his earlier works. This most recent Jack Reacher outing, The Midnight Line, hopefully marks the start of an upward curve; this book is definitely better than the last few. I will not spoil the plot suffice it to say that you will be entertained. However, the final 50 pages (or so) are not required and you will struggle to finish them off as the plot really has wrapped up before the physical end of the book.
